Dr. Emily Johnson
Dr. Johnson provides psychological services to children and adolescents. She offers individual therapy to children and youth who are experiencing a range of difficulties such as anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, low self-esteem, anger, interpersonal problems, and emotion regulation difficulties. Dr. Johnson also provides psychoeducational assessments to children and adolescents in order to evaluate learning disabilities, Attention-
Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), behavioural concerns, social adjustment difficulties, and gifted abilities. She also conducts diagnostic assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Dr. Johnson uses an evidence-based approach to working with children, youth, and their parents. She aims to create a warm and empathic relationship with her clients in order to help them work toward their treatment goals. Her therapeutic approach may be described as cognitive behavioural (CBT) at its core, although she integrates principles from her training in emotion focused therapy (EFT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), play therapy, and solution focused therapy.
She received her M.A. (2014) and Ph.D. (2019) in Clinical Psychology (child specialization) from the University of Windsor. She received training and worked in various community clinics in Windsor before completing her pre-doctoral internship at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).
Dr. Johnson maintains membership in national and provincial psychological associations. She is passionate about working with children and youth, and keeps up to date on current developments in the field by regularly attending child-focused educational workshops and lectures.
